BAE SYSTEMS HAWK MK 51 The team flies standard Finnish Air Force Academy's BAe Hawk Mk 51s. There are no special markings on the aircraft, because they are borrowed from Fighter Squadron 41. For each display 40 cm tall yellow numbers from 1 to 4 are added to the tail. The spare aircraft is always number 7. Pilots have the official Midnight Hawk patch in their flight suites. Because of the operational use of Hawks in Training Air Wing, pilots has no individual aircraft assigned, but naturally each pilot try to select his own favourite for the season. Color codes: Top: Dark Sea Grey (BS381C/638) Bottom: Medium Sea Grey (BS381C/637) Yellow team number: Citybold - font, 40 cm high Hawk Performance The maximum level speed of the Hawk is over 1000 km/h and the aircraft can attain supersonic speed (M1.2) in a dive. Hawk does the turning with aerodynamics whereas the supersonic fighters turn with brute power using the afterburner. The Hawk can reach -4 - +8 Gs and can keep them almost forever. The Hawk's Rolls-Royce Adour Mk851 is a modern low bypass jet engine. The use of bypassing air makes the engine very fuel efficient and gives the Hawk an extended endurance capability.
